Welcome from the Head of School

Welcome everyone to The Heath School. Growing up in Runcorn myself and attending The Heath School as a child, it is with great pride that I invite you to observe our school via the website and other online platforms, as is the way these days. Alternatively, I would encourage you to come and visit us for yourselves; we are very proud of both our school community and our local community. We know that the future of this community is in the hands of the children who attend our school, therefore we strive to prepare them for that challenge, both academically and socially. Year after year, our students never fail to meet this challenge and move on to do amazing things, whether that be in Halton, the Northwest, the UK or overseas.

The Heath’s excellent reputation strengthens relentlessly based on the hard work, commitment and dedication of our staff to consistently provide the very best opportunities for our students. Our staff model our school values day to day, and it is with this CARE (Cooperation, Aspiration, Resilience, Excellence) that we can personalise our provision for each individual student. We are currently oversubscribed, supporting more than our 1200 student capacity. The Heath School is a truly comprehensive school that embraces and provides space for all students regardless of gender, ethnicity, faith, sexuality or social background. We are fully inclusive and supportive of all students in the challenges they face growing up, of which none are more difficult than the teenage years.

Our curriculum is designed to deliver a wider experience than that outlined by the National Curriculum and examination boards with our ultimate aim to develop our students beyond these parameters. However, this does not discount our academic success and that, year or year, our students achieve grades comparative to, and in many cases better than, those nationally. These fantastic outcomes are consistent across a wide range of subjects and ensure that our students are successful in applying to their preferred next destination, whether academic or vocational. We are firm in our belief that it is not enough to simply ensure our students achieve the appropriate qualifications, it is also vital that our students are fully prepared to navigate the many post-secondary options available to them. As a result, our retention rates at these ‘next steps’ destinations are extremely high thus allowing for students to then move on to university or their preferred choice of career. There can be no doubt that The Heath School develops its students into respectable, reliable and dynamic young adults prepared for life after their time with us.

At the core of this academic and personal development are our inclusion teams. Whether it be our incredible pastoral staff, our wonderful support staff - who predominantly support our students with SEND - or our dedicated safeguarding team, our students really are at the heart of everything we do and the support they receive from all areas is second to none. Additionally, our extracurricular programme is considerable and continues to grow: whether you’re a keen sportsperson, thespian, artist, musician, dancer, a strategist who enjoys chess or cipher, or looking to boost your personal development through programmes like the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, we are committed to ensuring that we cater for the interests of as many children as possible outside the classroom environment, at break times, after school and our range of residential trip options is vast and varied, from UK visits to Italy, Spain and New York, each with its own focus and areas of interest.

If you would like to know any more about our fantastic school or come in to see us in action one day, then please do not hesitate to contact our tremendous Front of House Office Team, for whom nothing is ever too much trouble.
