Amanda Lovell-Kennedy
Chair of Governors
Amanda has had 38 years of teaching experience in secondary schools. She has over 20 years’ experience in Senior Leadership as both Assistant Principal and most recently, as a Head of School. Amanda has extensive experience of safeguarding, behaviour and student support. Amanda retired from her post as Head of School in July 2022.
In addition, she has had 5 years’ experience as a school governor and been chair of governors at a primary school. She has recently been appointed as Chair of Governors at The Heath School.

Jack Birch
Parent Governor
Jack is a developing parent governor, from a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) background. As an approved STEM ambassador, working within the UK Nuclear Industry, Jack is responsible for promoting STEM to students from primary level, right through to university. Some of the schemes and activities Jack has been involved in hitherto include:
- Mentoring and support at Industry open days, careers fairs, and events promoting technical college courses;
- Working in conjunction with Warrington Borough Council to deliver sessions to primary level children, facilitating the design, build and test of a robot vehicle (with a view to sparking an early interest in pursuing a STEM career);
- Delivering industry-specific presentations to Liverpool John Moores University final-year students, to promote graduate programmes and post-grad options;
- Assessment centre preparation and CV skills coaching;
- Support to onboarding; including interviewing and candidate selection;
- Production of CPD resources for teachers at technical colleges.
Jack is also a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), and secretary to the group-wide electrical functional safety working group.
Prior to a career in engineering, Jack worked for Financial Services (under the regulation of the Financial Conduct Authority) and is, as a result, equipped with many skills transferable to a parent governor role.
David Mansfield
Staff governor
Stan was elected as a School Governor in 2017 and is married with two children. He began teaching at The Heath in 1982 as a full time teacher of Physical Education. In 1989 he became Head of Department, a post he held for 15 years.
In his time at The Heath he has been involved in a wide range of projects and initiatives. He was a member of the Careers department for five years which brought him into contact with many local businesses, Colleges and other establishments giving him an insight into the career paths available to pupils post 16.
He was an active member of Camp Project Wales and a member of the Duke of Edinburgh team for many years. He has been leader and assistant party leader on fourteen school trips all over Europe involving skiing trips and water sport holidays. As a keen, unofficial member of the Drama department, he is always fully involved in school productions, and he has attended three Drama trips with pupils to London.
In his role in PE, he has been involved in many school teams and extra-curricular activities, bringing him into close contact with parents and members of the local community as well as local and National Schools.
He is a very dedicated member of The Heath School and as a result he is in his fortieth year of service.
Val Snelson
Trust Appointed Governor
Val has had over thirty years teaching experience in various high schools, as Head of Year/Faculty, Deputy Head and Acting Head. She has worked for several examination boards and was Senior Examiner for AQA.
As a governor at The Heath for over twelve years, Val has served on various committees including Finance, Inclusion, Pupil Behaviour Panels and Principal’s Performance Management.
Geoff Nuzum
Parent Governor
Geoff Nuzum moved to Runcorn with his family in 2013. He has two boys who attend The Heath School (in Years 8 and 10). After serving in HM Forces for several years, this former Army Officer is a passionate advocate of youth development and championing young adults to ensure they have the best opportunities to succeed in life.
A senior manager with many years of strategic and operational management experience. He relishes a challenge and always looks to identify opportunities to make improvements to systems of work, whilst bringing teams together to solve problems. Outside of work he recently stepped down from leading and coaching Runcorn Cricket Clubs Junior Section for 5 years, in that time he built a women’s and girls’ team from a standing start, and helped young players grow and develop through the power of sport, teamwork and collaborative working with his fellow coaching staff.
He is now very much looking forward to working with The Heath School team and the governors and hopes collectively they can make a difference to our children’s educational standards and outcomes, which he hopes will stand them in good stead for their working lives.
Danielle Egan
Trust Appointed Governor
Danielle has worked for the Department for Education for nearly 20 years and has always taken a keen interest in local schools, both professionally and as a mum.
Danielle currently manages a unit that considers school compliance with legislation/statutory guidance and therefore has a good amount of expertise to offer The Heath in her capacity as a Governor. Danielle was previously a governor for four years at Palace Fields Primary School, so she is already familiar with The Heath Family Trust.
Liam Field
Trust Appointed Governor
Liam is a recent addition to the governing body, appointed by the trust in January 2023. He works as a technical writer in enterprise software delivery, and sits as a magistrate in the criminal courts in Greater Manchester. Liam has a law degree from King’s College, and a master’s degree in philosophy and public policy from the London School of Economics.
