Lexonik
At The Heath School we address Reading and Literacy through three strands:
- Targeted Reading programme delivered through the Lexonik LEAP and Lexonik Advanced programmes
- Reading across the curriculum, delivered through quality first teaching, which incorporates reading of high-quality texts and morphemic teaching of key vocabulary. Including Sparx Reader.
- Reading for pleasure through sessions in our library and various mediums of text available in the school aimed at student interests.

”Lexonic specialises in accelerating literacy progress through evidence-based interventions and expert-led training. Our programmes are designed to close literacy gaps quickly, equipping students with the skills they need to succeed across every subject” |
Lexonic Advance
Lexonic Advance helps students achieve reading automaticity, a crucial element of reading fluency. By focusing on decoding polysyllabic words, the program enables learners to read quickly and accurately, allowing them to concentrate more on understanding the material rather than struggling with word recognition. A unique strength of Lexonic Advance is its focus on subject-specific vocabulary. By enhancing students' ability to decode and comprehend complex, discipline-specific terms, it builds the skills needed for success across various subjects, ensuring that literacy becomes a tool for deeper academic understanding.
Lexonic Leap- Filling Phonics Gaps, Fast
Lexonic Leap is designed for students who find basic literacy challenging, especially older learners. Lexonic Leap is different from traditional phonics programmes tailored to primary-aged students. Instead of covering an exhaustive list of letter patterns, Leap prioritises the most common, ensuring students achieve meaningful progress with minimal withdrawal from regular classes. The programme addresses phonics gaps with age-appropriate resources, ensuring students of all ages can build foundational literacy skills quickly and confidently.
