There are STEM clubs running every week at the Heath – with different clubs for different year groups and subject areas.
“REC – Robotics Education & Competition Foundation Improving the world by encouraging young people to learn about science, technology, engineering and math.”
Run every Tuesday after school for years 8, 9 and 10. Our students design and build their own robot and are encouraged to enter the VEX Robotics Competition. We had a very successful team last year who went on to win the Northwest Regional final of the competition.
“The VEX Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, is the ultimate STEM activity for high school students (ages 11-18).
Each year, an engineering challenge is presented in the form of a game. Students, with guidance from their teachers and mentors, use the VEX Robotics Design System to build innovative robots designed to score the most points possible in qualification matches, elimination matches and Skills Challenges. In addition to having a great time and building amazing robots, through their participation in the VEX Robotics Competition and their work within their team, students will learn many academic and life skills.” (source: http://www.roboticseducation.org/)
UKMT Challenge for year 7, 8, 9 & 10 is run at various points during the year for 6 weeks before the competition date. We have had gold, silver and bronze award winners this year!
