Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing to remind you that the school will close for the Whit break on Friday, 22nd May at the usual time and the buses will collect students as normal. School will re-open for students on Monday, 1st June 2015. The dates of school closure and reopening can always be found in the back of the newsletter or on the school website. During school holiday closure periods reception will be staffed each Thursday and Friday, should you need to contact the school for any reason. We also have an INSET day planned on Friday 26th June when the school will be closed to students; this is to facilitate school development planning.
Further to my previous correspondence I can now provide you with an update on the building programme. You will recall that a planning enquiry has been called due to objections from the Health and Safety Executive. Much to our dismay the planning enquiry has once again been postponed; I will let you know as soon as I receive further information regarding a new date and I am meeting with an Education Funding Agency (EFA) official shortly. I think it would be appropriate at this time to thank Derek Twigg, MP for his unwavering support of The Heath School and his understanding of the position with which we are faced . I am sure that you will share my disappointment in this news and I would like to assure you that everything will be done to assist in a successful outcome of the enquiry.
Thank you for your support in ensuring that students attend in full school uniform. One thing that defines Heath students from those in other schools is the high standard of their uniform. Please continue to ensure that your child attends school in the correct uniform, particularly during the summer months as the weather becomes warmer. If you have any concerns regarding uniform please do not hesitate to contact the Progress Coordinator for your child’s year group. We fully understand that we are currently in difficult financial times and we will endeavour to work with you to find a suitable solution. I would like to take this
opportunity to remind you of The Heath’s standards on acceptable footwear for students. Recently there has been an increase in the number of boys arriving at school in inappropriate shoes. A number of outlets have advertised footwear within the school shoe sections that are a cross between a trainer and a shoe. These shoes are not allowed and all shoes for boys should be plain black leather or leather effect with no coloured logo or patterns on them. This includes sections on the shoe that are quilted or have metal additions to them. Please see the school website for examples of shoes that are acceptable and unacceptable.
There is a busy time ahead for students in the next half term and it is an important time for Year 11 and 12 students who will be completing their external examinations.
