Letter to Parents September 2016

23rd September 2016

Dear Parent/Carer,

May I firstly thank you for your support in ensuring that the high standard of uniform has been maintained with the vast majority of students returning in September fully equipped and ready to commence the new academic year.  Please check the website/newsletter for detailed uniform advice; school shoes for both girls and boys should be black leather, not trainers or anything that could be interpreted as a training shoe and should not have brands/logos on them. Please can you ensure your child’s hairstyle is appropriate for school; again please check the school website for clarification.

As you may have seen in the press recently we have had yet another fantastic set of GCSE and ‘A’ level results and I would like to congratulate the class of 2016 and thank all parents and carers for their continued support.  We had two great results days with our ‘A’ Level students making plans on starting University and our GCSE students embarking on post 16 education.

It is a great feeling to fully have work underway for our new school building.  It is a really exciting time that will not only enhance the learning experience of students once completed but also during construction as we aim to use the expertise of our contractors, Carillion, to enrich our curriculum.  We are hopeful that our new school will be completed during December 2017 and we will endeavour to keep you abreast of developments on our website and Twitter feed.

I would also like to take this opportunity to advise you that Friday, 7th October 2016 is a Staff INSET Day and children are not expected to attend school.  School will re-open again on Monday, 10th October at the usual time.  On Thursday, 6th October 2016 we will hold our Open Evening for Year 6 students and therefore close an hour earlier on that day – 2.10 pm. [Please note school buses will not be available at 2.10 pm] This is to enable us to make final preparations and to allow helpers to get home and back to school with a reasonable break in between.  If you would like your son/daughter to remain in school until 3.10 pm, please let me know and we will arrange for supervision.

My Principal’s Surgeries take place between 4 pm – 7pm on the following dates:

  • Thursday, 10th November 2016;
  • Thursday, 9th February 2017;
  • Thursday, 30th March 2017;
  • Thursday, 25th May 2017
  • Thursday, 6th July 2017.

Should you wish to make an appointment please call or email my PA, Marie Wadsworth (mwadsworth@heathschool.org.uk).

On Monday, 10th October to coincide with World Mental Health day we are raising awareness for children and young people’s mental health by supporting “Young Minds’ charity “#HelloYellow” campaign.  Students can show their support by wearing an item of yellow clothing to complement their uniform; it is not an own clothes day.  Any students who wish to wear a yellow item can donate £1 which should be given in to Student Services which will then be forwarded to the charity.

Year 7 will be taking part in a residential visit to Kingswood over a four day period, Friday 14th October to Monday 17th October 2016. Your child will attend either the Friday to Saturday session or the Sunday to Monday session and you should have already received a separate letter providing full details. Residential courses organised by the school are an invaluable part of the curriculum. Over the past six years our Year 7 pupils have benefited hugely from the Kingswood experience, both educationally and socially. It offers the opportunity for the students to bond as a form group and also for the form tutors and year team to get to know their students in a more relaxed atmosphere.

The following information evenings will take place shortly and information will be sent out in a separate letter:

  • Monday 26th September 6-7pm Year 11
  • Tuesday, 27th September 6-7pm Year 10
  • Wednesday 28th September 6-7pm Year 9
  • Thursday, 29th September 6-7pm Year 8
  • Monday 10th October 6-7pm Year 7

It is wonderful seeing so many of our parents using the new App to communicate with us.  As a reminder, if you have a smartphone, both you and school can save money when you download the ‘School Gateway’ app free from your app store (Android and iPhone).  By doing so we can send you app messages (avoiding cost of texts to you and the school).

Getting started is quick and easy to do.  All you need is your email address and mobile number that school holds on record for you.  If you have trouble logging in please contact Gayle Collins, Office Manager on 01928 576664.

Finally, you should have already received a letter advising of our parent/governor vacancy inviting you to put your name forward for the role; may I remind you that the deadline to do this is Friday, 30th September

Yours sincerely

Mr J Jardine
