Letter home to parents 30th November

30th November 2017

Dear Parents and Carers,

On Wednesday, 13th December school will close at the usual time, 3.10 pm for the Christmas break and school buses will run as normal.  Also on the 13th we will be holding a Christmas Jumper Day; students should wear full school uniform but may add a colourful Christmas jumper if they choose to (if they do not have a Christmas jumper they can decorate a jumper with tinsel).  If they do not wish to wear a Christmas jumper they may wear Christmas headwear as an alternative.  There will be no charge to students, however all staff wearing a Christmas jumper will pay £1 to raise funds for charity.  School Christmas dinner will be served to students on Wednesday, 6th December: £2.40 in the canteen – please let your child know that there will be sandwiches/baguettes/cold pasta pots/salad offered also in the school hall as an alternative.

School re-opens on Wednesday, 10th January 2018 in our new school building at the usual time and dates of school closure and re-opening can be found in the back of the newsletter or on the school website.  Please note that if we experience extreme weather which requires the school to close details will be on the school website, on the radio and text messages will be sent via the School Gateway app.  The school gates to the main drive will continue to be open during the hours of 8.30 am – 9.00 am and 2.45 – 3.30 pm as usual.

I would like to give you advance notice that in the near future we will be moving towards a cashless catering system and further details will be sent to you at the time; in the meantime you can prepare for this by ensuring you have downloaded the School Gateway app. If you have a smartphone, both you and school can save money when you download the ‘School Gateway’ app free from your app store (Android and iPhone). By doing so we can send you app messages (avoiding cost of texts to you and the school) and in the future you can use the online payments option to pay for your child’s lunches. If you have trouble logging in please contact Sherry Jeremiah on 01928 576664.

We currently have a parent governor vacancy and will be starting the election process in the new year, however in the meantime if you are interested in becoming a parent governor and would like further details please get in touch either on the school telephone number or by emailing the Clerk to Governors, Marie Wadsworth: mwadsworth@heathschool.org.uk   No special qualifications are needed and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the governing body’s work. Training is available for all governors and this governing body has an expectation that those new to being a governor attend free induction training.

I am concerned about the way a minority of students who cycle to school and home are behaving towards other road users and pedestrians; their dangerous behaviour is a risk to themselves and others. Please can you ensure that your son or daughter rides to and from school in an appropriate manner and wears a helmet. From January 2018 it is compulsory for ALL students to wear a helmet when cycling to school, something they don’t appear to like to do. However, the dangers of cycling without a helmet are deeply concerning to me and I am taking this step to support you in ensuring your son/daughter’s safety on the road.

May I take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year and thank you for your continued support this term.

Yours sincerely,

J Jardine
