The Heath are due to be one of the first schools to be rebuilt as part of the Priority Schools Building Programme. The new school, which will incorporate a brand new sixth form is due to open in 2014.
The Educational Funding Agency (EFA) have chosen the construction company Carillion – Ryder to build the new Heath School. The announcement was made on 17th May and was the culmination of 8 weeks of intense competition between two giants of the building industry.
For the remainder of this term representatives from Carillion will engage with the school to fine tune their design and detailed plan for construction. During the summer holidays some preliminary work will be carried out (new footpaths, car parking, site and materials compounds etc.) with actual building expected to commence in October 2013. The new building is expected to ready for use in December 2014.
The realisation of Carillion’s design will provide the Heath with state of the art classroom environments for all with climate control as standard.
The new school will include a new sports and community centre with 4 court Sports Hall, Activity Hall, Dance and Drama studios, cafeteria. External features include a new tennis courts, multi-use games areas (MUGA’s) an amphitheatre and external dining terrace and new refectory. The building will house a new Sixth Form Centre and specialist laboratories, workshops and classrooms befitting a school of a 21st Century School.
