Graphic Products

Within Graphic Products pupils will learn a range of skills including traditional drawing skills as well developing skills in the use of modern Graphics technologies. Pupils will learn how to research to inform design and will then produce a finished product from concept right through to finish.

Pupils will learn about materials, tools and equipments used in Graphics as well as learning about card engineering and promotional design. They should make use of basic materials in graphics as well as more advanced modern and smart materials.

Throughout their Graphics career, pupils will develop an awareness of industrial processes which will aid their portfolio as well as their exam preparation. Pupils will also develop a knowledge and understanding of influential designers within the Graphics industry, thus enabling them to draw inspiration from industry standard work to further enhance their portfolio.

Graphic Products

Year 7

With Graphics Products at the Heath, the year 7 cohort will spend approximately 10 weeks learning a range of practical skills to further enhance their knowledge, supporting their learning throughout the whole of technology.

Currently year 7 pupils are designing and making a board game with an emphasis on learning about tools, equipment and materials used within Graphics.

The first part of the project will see pupils looking at a range of research methods to inform design. They will then use their research to produce designs from concept through to finish before embarking on the making process. Pupils will then make use of paper and card engineering to produce their final outcome.

The second part of the project focuses on promotional design and the use of modern technologies to promote their product.

KS3 Technology Curriculum Overview

Year 8

Pupils in year 8 are also designing and making a board game with an emphasis on developing previously learned skills and putting them into practice. They must demonstrate an understanding of tools, equipment and materials used within Graphics.

This project will see pupils looking at a range of research methods to inform design, building upon skills learned last year. They will then use their research to produce designs from concept through to finish before embarking on the making process. Pupils will then make use of paper and card engineering to produce their final outcome.

KS3 Technology Curriculum Overview

Year 9

Pupils choosing Graphic Products at GCSE level will begin with basic sketching and prototyping before producing isometric sketches and final models. Pupils must learn how to critically analyse their own and each others’ work by testing their designs and models.

Pupils will then take these skills and develop them further in 3 projects designed to ready them for their controlled assessment and GCSE exam.

Pupils will show a thorough understanding of the design brief and specification before producing extensive research to inform their design. They must be able to produce exciting designs complete with thorough annotation as well as developing their designs through a range of media.

Pupils will demonstrate an understanding of advanced graphics materials as well as smart and modern materials and will be required to make use of such products throughout their projects. They will also learn about printing processes, particularly those used within the design industry and will be required to demonstrate an understanding of the above concepts in out of class learning tasks.

Graphics Year 9 Curriculum Overview

Year 10

In year 10 Graphics pupils will take their advanced skills learned in year 9 and put them into practice. They will complete two more projects designed to further enhance their knowledge and understanding within Graphics.

They will be required to look at a number of influential designers and use their work to inspire their own designs.

To further enhance their work, students will be required to learn about social, moral and environmental factors as well as looking at quality control and assurance before producing their final outcomes.
Graphics Year 10 Curriculum Overview

Year  11

Pupils will then embark on their controlled assessment task choosing from 4 projects.

They must take skills learned throughout their previous projects to produce a high quality portfolio. They will be required to make a range of concept and development models using a range of media and will incorporate Computer Aided design and Computer Aided Manufacture (CAD CAM) to enhance their portfolio.

Pupils will know and work to their strengths and must produce high quality outcomes to accompany their portfolio.

Once the controlled assessment is complete pupils will then begin their exam preparation.

Extra Curricular

Within Graphics we are currently offering a craft and card making activity whereby pupils will be able to produce themed stationary using a range of materials and media.

We also offer after school catch up classes on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
